Modernization and Expansion

The proposed expansion of the Port of Lobito, subdivided into five phases, began in March 2008.

The first intervention phase consisted of the rehabilitation work with existing quay length of 1122 meters, the paving of the embankment and replacement of rails, work already completed.

The second phase is the construction of Container Terminal, the extension work of the South Pier in more than 414 meters, which have a depth of 14, 7 meters, the construction of the Dry Port, works already far advanced and Bridge over the Mangal opened in March 2010.

The third phase of works comprises the construction of Terminal ores whose works are in progress.

The fourth and fifth steps consist in building a container terminal for minerals and the creation of a berthing pier 1,200 feet long, and the construction of a docking cruise ships and a luxury Club de Yates, thus making it increasingly Lobito more of a tourist destination reference.

After the completion of the five stages of the project to be developed in the bay of Port of Lobito, the total length of the berthing area will be 7.8 Kilometers in which they can dock at the same time 20 vessels for long distances, as well as handling 11 million tons of general merchandis and 700,000 TEUs / year.
